Super Bowl’s Vince Lombardy Trophy

By admin on February 15th, 2010

Originally named the Titletown Trophy, the Vince Lombardi Trophy is the trophy awarded each year to the winning team of the NFL’s championship game, the Super Bowl.  The trophy has been awarded since 1967 and was renamed in 1970 in memory of the legendary Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi after his sudden death from cancer.  The trophy is valued to be worth $25,000 and was created by Tiffany and Co.  The regulation size football trophy is all sterling silver and weighs about 7 pounds.  It takes workers about four months to make and is sent back to Tiffany’s to be engraved with the winnings team’s name, date, and final score of the game.  Just this Sunday, February 7, 2010 the New Orleans Saint took home the trophy in a 31-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts.  Head coach of the Saints Sean Payton said he went to sleep with the Lombardi trophy in his arms!
