What is a New York Gold Party?

By admin on January 22nd, 2010

Home parties where guests must sit through demonstrations of the latest Mary Kay or Tupperware products are a thing of the past, and are quickly being replaced by GOLD PARTIES!  The great thing is that at a gold party you never have to feel obligated to make a purchase, because gold parties sell absolutely nothing!  A New York Gold Party is like any other party you’ve attended.  There’s the lounging around with friends, food, sipping a little wine, and listening to the latest buzz.  What’s different and great about a gold party in New York through The Gold Standard is that gold parties are the only parties where guests make money instead of spending it.

And it gets even better!  We take care of everything for the event.  As host you only need to make a list of 10 or more friends and we’ll:

· Create and mail out the invitations

· Provide delicious food and beverages

· And guarantee your guests will receive the highest payout for their gold!

Hosts Earn Cash!

Hosts don’t have to sell a thing but still earn cash. Our hosts receive a 10% commission on all sales at the party.  Our NY hosts can earn $500-$2500 per party!  Plus, you will earn extra commission when guests at your party sign up to host their own NY Gold Party.  At your gold party one of our expert gold party appraisers from The Gold Standard will assess all items brought by your guests and within hours your guests will leave with cash paid to them on the spot.

Nothing to Lose

Our professional jewelers will appraise your gold with absolutely no pressure to sell.  Half of the fun is just finding out how much your valuables are actually worth and sharing stories associated with your jewelry.  We reference a daily gold index each day to ensure you receive the most accurate and highest payouts for your gold.

Workers at Harmony Gold’s Kalgold Mine Strike

By admin on January 21st, 2010

The National Union of Mine Workers is reporting that after a disagreement over wages about 200 contract workers at Harmony Gold’s Kalgold mine in South Africa put down their tools and went on strike.  The union is demanding a 15% wage increase from ASL Mining, the firm that contracted the workers.  However, ASL Mining will only increase wages by 10%.  The union’s main concern is not the figure of wage increase so much as the backdate of wages.  Currently ASL mining has set the backdate from December onwards instead of from May which is usually the case.  Despite the strike Harmony spokeswoman Marian van der Walt states that there is no disruption to production due to built up stockpiles.  Mining and hauling at the operation continues to be at a standstill although blasting and drilling will continue.

A similar issue is arising from Zambia’s copper miners who are threatening to strike if gold mining companies fail to make reasonable pay offers.  Specifically, labor unions such as the Miner’s Union of Zambia want an above inflation increase.  At present the national inflation is at 9.9 percent.

The Goldschläger Myth

By admin on January 20th, 2010

Flakes of gold have traditionally been added to food and drinks such as teas and chocolates in many countries.  Gold flakes can even be found in numerous cosmetic products.  The Italian cinnamon schnapps Goldschläger is a clear liqueur known for containing very thin but visible real flakes of gold swirling within.  In actuality only about a tenth of a gram of gold is contained in a 750mL bottle.  Goldschläger is a German word meaning “gold beater” and describes the profession of gold leaf makers who beat bars of gold into thin sheets.  A myth associated with why the liqueur contains gold flakes is that the flakes of gold make microscopic cuts along the lining of the esophagus and stomach hastening the time it takes for the alcohol to enter the bloodstream and thus shortening the amount of time to reach intoxication.  However, because gold, especially 24k gold which is used in the liqueur, is soft and malleable the flakes have no sharp edges and therefore cannot scratch or cut anything.

Doesn’t the Price of Gold Vary? Should I Wait To See If It Goes Up?

By admin on January 19th, 2010

This is one of the most common questions we hear.

Although the price of gold does fluctuate depending on factors affecting the world market, there is no assurance of the price of gold tomorrow and it is better to lock into a current high price.  Even if you were to wait and the price went up or down by $10, $20, etc. the payout price would only fluctuate by less than a dollar per oz.  Unless you are selling very large amounts of gold, this increase will not greatly affect your total payout.  Also, there is a good chance that markets may actually go down rather than up.  The current world market has proven to be unstable and unpredictable so it is best to sell while there is a guarantee of a good price.
