Sell Your Jewelry with Caution
Unfortunately many websites and companies are plaguing the New York cash for gold industry with dishonest business and even outright scams. The best way to avoid NY cash for gold scams and gold party scams is to become informed about the company you are interested in working with.
What to Look Out For
Because the price of gold is at an all time record high many New Yorkers are taking advantage of this fact by selling their unwanted gold items for large sums of quick cash. We advise you to beware of mailing in your gold jewelry to fly-by-night online cash for gold companies if you know little about that company. In many cases these cash for gold scams are simply receiving your gold jewelry without any intention of paying you or returning your items. Look out for:
- Fly-by-night or mail-in options for cash for gold
- Hidden fees
- Low ball offers
NY Gold Party Scams
Some New York businesses pose as honest and professional jewelers willing to coordinate your gold party and pay you and your guests a fair amount of cash for any gold jewelry brought to the party. Having the jeweler in your presence does not exclude the possibility of being scammed for you and your guests’ gold. Be alarmed if:
- Gold buyers do not assess your gold in your presence
- You suspect faulty calculations in determining your gold’s worth
- Scales have not been certified and calibrate by the State of NY
Be Informed
- Do research on the company you are interested in
- See if the NY gold for cash company is part of an ethics committee and has their scales certified on a regular basis
Why Chose The Gold Standard of New York?
- We are members of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee for ethics and integrity
- Our scales are certified and calibrated by the State of New York
- We are licensed to trade gold
- We post our daily payout rates at each store
- There are absolutely no hidden fees and no minimum weights
- We guarantee 110% that you’ll receive the highest payouts than any other gold buyer
The Bottom Line is we’ve built a strong reputation for our business over the past 75 years simply through exceptional customer care and honest transactions. As a family owned business we share a common set of values and beliefs that we apply to our business everyday to ensure safe and excellent service. We offer a number of services, including a Gold Party Company and an Online Cash For Gold Company, both of which operate with the same ethics and integrity as our local New York stores.

Goes to show you, if something is too good to be true, it probably is!
Thanks for the advice! I can’t say I know enough not to be taken advantage of, but now I know a little more so it’s that much harder.
My mom always told me “never let anything valuable out of your sight.” Doing the assessment outside of your presence seems like a great way to have the guy do a switch on you. You show up with your 18k gold ring, he gives you a low price, and he justifies it by showing you a 14k gold ring that’s “yours” to argue a lower price. If you want to go somewhere else, you’ve just had your 18k ring turned into a 14k one when you go to the next jeweler.
Just a loyal customer saying “thanks for the warnings!” I’m glad to see you looking out for people, whether or not they sell their gold to you.
Thanks very much for this warning.Cash for gold scams are every where and if you don’t look out very well, one will just fall a prey of this.Be very informed and vigilant. Most times we should follow our instincts all this things. Most times I have been scammed I realize that I already had a warning instincts in me but the offer was just too good…Some things are really just too good to be true.Choose the right company!!!
It’s easy to avoid a cash for gold scam. You should look into the business history of gold buyers before you visit them. Your best source of information is by word of mouth, as they are real life experiences. Consult with your family and friends about any problems they may have had. Then go to the Better Business Bureau website to investigate further.
Thanks for your warning really,a lot of us out there are really naive about selling out our golds and can therefore get scammed easily . I am glad companies like you are ready to put people through.
Some businesses that buy gold online will claim that they never received the gold that you sent to them. Gold buyers that receive large amounts of complaints about this are just a cash for gold scam
This season, people should be aware of the plethora of cash for gold scams. Along with the high price of gold come plenty of people who are looking to make a quick buck at your expense. Thanks so much for your concern.
